How to track your health goals with our high-tech scales

These days we love technology and what better way to track your health than via a state of the art electronic set of scales. Wellnation Clinics at Endeavour College offer the Tanita Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis scales (BIA) as an effective and dependable way of measuring and tracking body composition.

The Tanita monitor is quite literally a one-step process to obtaining total body fat, body water percentage, muscle mass, physical rating, visceral fat and bone mass. Additionally, it will also determine your daily caloric intake, basal metabolic rate and metabolic age.

Before stepping on the scales, the individual’s age, gender, and height are entered in. After stepping on the scales, the individual’s weight and body fat content is calculated via electrodes located in the foot sensor pads which send a low, safe and pain free signal through the body. The entire process is less than a minute and is an excellent resource for easily gathering information that can highlight potential health issues and assist in formulating lifestyle changes that can maintain or improve one’s physical state.

Ordinary methods of measuring body fat such as bathroom scales are not an accurate representation of body fat percentage as not all body fat is visible or distributed equally for each person.

With the Tanita monitor, as the electrical current moves through the body, it passes freely through fluids located in muscle tissue, yet it struggles to pass through fat deposits. The Tanita scales measure the ‘bioelectrical impedance’ or fat tissue with great precision.

The fantastic benefits of gathering this data include being able to identify indications of elevated levels of body fat which are linked to high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other disabling conditions.

Once you have identified your health concerns and/or personal goals with your student nutritional medicine practitioner, the BIA results can been used to help determine individualised changes to diet, supplementation and lifestyle. To note you’re progress, the Tanita scales can be used to track weight loss, hydration levels, muscle tone and cellular health as part of a personalised treatment plan.

Nutritional Medicine appointments can be made at our six locations nationally. Don’t forget to ask to have your BIA analysis done!

Can you please tell me if these scales can be used by anyone who has artificial hips, only both my right and left hips have been replaced with titanium replacements.
Thank you
Sincerely
Helen

Hello Helen

Although the readings are generated by measuring the resistance to the flow of an electric current through body fluids. From my experience and research a titanium hip would not interfere substantially with the overall percentage readings.

There would be no impact on segmental readings for the arms and torso and as previous the difference in overall readings would not be clinically significant. Once baseline data is attained ongoing testing would be able to monitor improvements.

Warm regards,
